We have all heard someone say they do Reformer Pilates but what is it and how does it differ from Mat pilates.
Reformer Pilates is a type of Pilates that utilizes a particular apparatus known as the Reformer. The Reformer features a large frame with a carriage that slides back and forth. The carriage is set on wheels and is operated using pulleys and springs. These springs provide resistance, which can either assist or challenge the user during exercises on the machine. This resistance enhances strength, control, and endurance.
The springs offer a unique resistance for the body in a different way to a dumbbell, as the spring stretches the tension increases, there for the body had to regulate the forces while the body moved on the carriages or with the changing resistance.
