Pilates in the Heat

The upcoming week is expected to be hot, so how can you best prepare for your Pilates session?

Our first recommendation is to ensure you stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, not only during your sessions but also before and after. If you're feeling thirsty, it's a sign that your body is already dehydrated.

Secondly, wear clothing that is lightweight and aids in the evaporation of sweat. Most sportswear today is designed with this purpose in mind.

We also suggest bringing a small towel with you, as it can be helpful if your hands become sweaty, preventing slipping and maintaining studio hygiene.

Lastly, you might need to take more breaks than usual. Hot weather can lower your blood pressure as your body attempts to cool down by widening blood vessels (vasodilation) to increase their surface area and release heat. Your heart compensates for the drop in blood pressure by increasing its rate, and these physiological responses to the heat can make you feel tired, dizzy, and light-headed.
